Located in the epicenter of one of North America's most concentrated clusters of biomedical research and expertise known as the "Discovery District", MaRS is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 2000 by leaders from the business and public sectors to improve commercial outcomes from Canada's foundation of science and technology innovation, fostering new ideas and new technologies by converging capital, science and business. The MaRS Collaboration Centre offers meeting and conference spaces with fully integrated, state-of-the-art audio/video and communication technologies.

In 2006, Applied Electronics designed, supplied and installed a complete system that gave MaRS incredible flexibility and optimum operability. Being able to move podiums and A/V equipment from room to room without losing access to the fully integrated system was a main feature that was mandated by MaRS. The original specifications were performance-based and not equipment-based, but after assessing the long-term needs of the facility, Applied Electronics built a fully integrated system with equipment that would guarantee outstanding performance and reliability with opportunity to expand in the future.

The Collaboration Centre's high-tech boardroom, two seminar rooms with theatre-style seats, state-of-the-art video conferencing facility, Think Tank room that offers inspiration and tools for brainstorming sessions, meeting room with interactive plasma panel, along with its 4,600 square-foot auditorium for 380 people which can be divided into 3 separate auditoriums, are all equipped with Christie Digital data/video projectors, Draper motorized drop-down screens, Samsung and Sharp LCD displays, Harman HiQnet network digital audio solution, BSS and Crown amplifiers, JBL loudspeakers with AKG wireless microphones, and a Crestron room automation system.

The MaRS Centre won the Intelligent Building of the Year Award in 2006.
