FEATURED PROJECTS
Fanshawe College
Fanshawe College is a leader in training students for the broadcasting industry. Built under the Ministry of Colleges and Universities’ Superbuild Program, “M” Building was purposely designed to house all the broadcasting programs such as Radio, Television, Digital Post Production and Broadcast Journalism, as well as the Post Graduate Program for Television News and the Multimedia Program. It includes three television studio areas, two TV control rooms and eight editing suites with twenty radio announce booths.
There are two radio stations, CIXX “The X” is an urban and news-oriented 3kw community station and an in-house station CFRL on 98.7 cable with block programming that is used to give students real world/real life experience for their resume. Radio has an entirely digital workflow from CD input through the digital consoles and routers to the fiber feeding the digital modulation of the transmitter.
The main 60x40 foot teleproduction studio can be equipped with up to five studio cameras via Camplex. There is also a smaller 20x20 green screen/interview studio. The news studio, actually part of the huge active newsroom, is used daily for live feeds to the college community and to the general community via Rogers Cable. In addition, bulkheads located strategically around the building allow students to initiate live feeds from almost every venue. Technically, the workflow is all digital using SDI component and AES audio signals, and tying it all together is a Telex broadcast intercom system.
Having all this creativity under one roof provides an exciting synergy between the programs. AEL is pleased and proud to have been involved in a consulting role right from the very beginning of architectural design through to system design and the supply of equipment through a partner agreement.
