Ryerson at NAB 2009, April 27, 2009 back to recent news

Mississauga, Ontario - April 27, 2009 – For the third year in a row, Ryerson University’s Radio and Television Arts (RTA) students flew down to Las Vegas to attend NAB 2009. It was once again a phenomenal experience for all 60 students (up from 42 students in 2008), some making connections for job opportunities (many at the Canadian Suite), others finding new avenues to explore and educational and career paths to pursue. Many were keenly interested in “3D production” and technology working towards the “mobile device” as a production outlet and tool. The students also garnered much attention on the NAB floor – attention which helped the students gather information from all booths visited and encouraged acknowledgment of the value of investing in students’ futures. Some manufacturers such as Zylight wanted their products in the students’ hands and offered to send a few of their amazing LED lighting systems as a gift for the students to learn on.

Applied Electronics, DSC Labs, Ross video, ORAD, ATI/AMD, KinoFlo, and Kodiak provided generous sponsorship support that gave the RTA students the opportunity to embrace the NAB experience. Kodiak and Applied Electronics also supplied branded t-shirts which each student sported on the NAB show floor, ATI provided a private luxury bus tour of Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon for the students, and a dinner at Planet Hollywood was also funded by sponsors.

As usual, Applied Electronics is proud to be involved in such a marvellous initiative. AEL’s President Paul Stechly (far right) and V.P. Susan Stechly (far left) joined in a photo session with the RTA group. Richard Grunberg (front row), Head of Video/Assist. Professor/Technical Producer/Director of Photography for the Radio and Television Arts Department at Ryerson University, once again did a fantastic job of coordinating this amazing learning experience for the students.
